The Justice Grants team is a business area in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (External link)
Justice Grants works closely with local government and communities by:
- providing grants to address local crime issues
- supporting cross-sector partnerships in relation to crime prevention, and
- building knowledge about effective responses to prevent crime.
Justice Grants is responsible for delivering the Crime Prevention Strategy. The Strategy provides a framework for government to partner with communities and key organisations to deliver effective solutions to local crime and safety issues, and build the evidence about what works.
The Strategy aims to create Victorian communities that are safer and feel safer for everyone.
Under the Crime Prevention Strategy, our key areas of focus are:
- Empower and invest in communities to implement local solutions.
- Enhance and connect support for people in need.
- Build evidence and impact for effective and innovative approaches.
Key principles inform how we work:
- Community is at the centre of crime prevention efforts.
- Strengths of individuals, families and communities will be recognised and built upon.
- Early support will be provided to young Victorians at risk, before they come into contact with the justice system.
- Crime prevention is a shared responsibility between Government, communities and individuals.
- Innovation and evidence will underpin our approach to crime prevention.
- Culturally safe and inclusive approaches will be a key focus of crime prevention.
